Linking iTunes music libraries to and from...
A buddy of mine just texted to ask how he can link his iTunes music library to an external hard disk and be sure that when he copies music to iTunes it actually places it on the external drive instead of his startup disk. Here’s a quick run down that I hope can help anyone else who is looking for this answer: 1. Open iTunes. Visit Preferences > Advanced and reset the iTunes Media folder...

New York Times on GO800™ › →
“The advantages to companies are obvious; instead of trying to get consumers to remember a seven-digit toll-free number, they can place the keyword in their ads, user manuals or other marketing materials. People are more likely to remember “Apple” than 800-694-7466, the company’s iPhone support number.”

Google Reader Stats
See, I really did take Gizmodo off my list. Ten years ago Giz with Joel Johnson (Joel still does) ruled, but when they’re not buying stolen iPhone prototypes they just stab and grab from Engadget and Uncrate anyway. And MAKE is just awesome. (And yes, I am running Google Chrome on my Mac with a brushed aluminum skin.)

Fixing the Google Notifier delay
Brief: I’ve scrapped Apple’s desktop Mail app for the time being — because I find that running my domain mail through Google Apps aka Gmail via browser has been much more pleasant and robust for organization. Problem: The Google Notifier by default seems to check so sporadically — sometimes 18 minutes between checks. Solution: Click on the envelope icon Press both command and...

Water Filters for Haiti →
A couple of buddies of mine — John DiGenni and Matt Vecere — two real people, are headed down to Haiti at the end of this month representing Waves for Water charity to distribute water filters to Haitians. Just do them a quick solid — be a good human, and paypal these guys a couple of bucks so they can afford to bring a few more filters down to our neighbors. Donate here — or click the link...

Continuity Game
If you are a fan of Desktop Tower Defense or browser-based flash games while you’re at work, try Continuity. Using your arrow keys to slide the boxes left, right, up, and down — and space bar to zoom in-and-out, each level is completed after each door is unlocked. It definitely gets more difficult. Don’t forget to update your Flash player ›

Google Chrome
I just fell in re-love again with Google’s Chrome browser after adding a nice new theme. I’m a sucker for stainless steel. Quick FYI: It’s webkit based which means it behaves like Safari and it’s quicker than Firefox. Download here.

Text to Call
Sound confusing? Imagine being irrate at Bank of America or Toyota and not being able to reach the right person via their courtesy 800 number. Then try texting BOFA -or- TOYOTA to go800 and seconds later being connected with a real live person—on their dime of course. I’m pretty excited at the potential this technology has for eliminating the old 800 number echelon. Anything new is...

Foursquare vs. Yelp — Part 2
Enter Yelp. I’ll spare you the history of Yelp — because I don’t know it or want to link to another Wikipedia page. In the first part of this post I wrote about the pros and cons of Foursquare. Someone at Yelp was taking some serious notes. Almost as if they knew longevity was the key to winning this GPS / social apps battle, Yelp has managed to merge fun and seriousness into one...

Foursquare vs. Yelp — Part 1
Foursquare: In the beginning there was Dodgeball by Google — which no one really used and so the creators went off on their own and introduced Foursquare to the world — first as an iPhone app (and now on Droids and Berries). I jumped on Foursquare in early April 2009 and a few friends joined and it was fun competing for mayor of our local dives while everyone looked on like we were idiots. Then,...
